It is with great enthusiasm, that the Trekking Hellas team has "re-opened" this historical path! A path said to have been chosen by Alexander the Great, so that his army could cross Thessaly.
It is a relatively easy route, with breathtaking view. The two emblematic mountains of the region, Olympus and Kissavos, stand proudly facing each other and our gaze wonders at the "details"... from the coast of Larissa to Halkidiki and Mount Athos, to the second and third peak of mount Olympus, the villages of Lower Olympus and the canyon of Omolio.
Our trip starts with a short 4×4 drive, from the theatre of Omolio and ends in a clearing. Here begins an easy and short uphill hike, called the "Laughing path". Soon after, the trail narrows and becomes just a single rock-lane, a natural 100 meter suspension bridge overlooking the gap of the canyon! Passing with due care, we proceed to the chestnut orchards of Ambelakia, from where the path leads us to a natural opening where have a short break for coffee, snack and to marvel the view.
On the way back we stop at the "memory stone", carved names and signs silently reveal the history of the passage - ancient walkers, Venetians, bandits, shepherds, climbers and mountain lovers have left their signature... Heading back, we pass once again the rocky passage of Alexander the Great!
Arriving at the starting point, we can visit a "special" chapel with our vehicles, which is carved into the rock. And, optionally, on the way back we can also visit Kokkino Nero red water spa for a swim or the Peneus Delta.
