Hike to the temple of the God of healing and the sun!

The temple of Apollo Epicurius, built by the architect Iktinos (also architect of the Parthenon)  in the middle of the 5th century B.C.  is a real masterpiece imposing in the majestic heights of the Arcadian mountains. Although nowadays it is covered by a sunshade tent to make it cope with the pressure of the wind and the snow load you can still feel the grandeur and the energy released in this magical spot. The marble carvings of the temple, with depictions of the battles of Amazons and Centaurs, is considered a piece by sculptor Peonius, nowadays exhibited at the British Museum.

Our hike starts from the village of Neda in a path covered by large yew trees and passing by the stone-built bridge of Berekla. We continue our hike along the stream’s running water and under full shade of plane trees, until we reach the spring of Tritseli and make a stop at Abeliona’s square. After a short rest we enter a dense chestnut forest where at its exit we enjoy the majestic view to Mount Lykaion and Mount Tetrazi. The trail’s highest peak lies at Stavrouli, where you can choose to either visit the church of Saint Iakovos, called Agianakovos by locals, the spring of Filiatro, or the mountain top of Vigla. We continue via a small plateau till the village of Sklirou, where you can see the statue of Nicolaos Bozinakis, a local chief of the Greek Independence War. From there a broad, good paved path will lead us to the Temple of Apollo Epicurius. (a longer version is also available starting from the springs of Neda upon request)

Having visited the Temple and enjoyed a greek picnic lunch we transfer back to Neda village where we say  goodbye for the day !

Having explored the mountains, time to get wet ! Depart from the hotel and drive to Trekking Hellas rafting base in the village of Maratha for a great day of fun and adventure !

A divine river awaits for you to conquer it!

Lousios river is where Zeus the father of Olympian gods bathed after his birth, according to Pausanias the Greek traveler and geographer of the 2nd century AD. A 2nd degree of difficulty rafting descent in the river’s crystal clear waters, inside a spectacular densely vegetated gorge. Discover the hidden natural wonders of the area, starting from Lousios, continuing to Alfios River, and ending to the spectacular bridge of “Koukos”.
