Canoe Kayak in Amvrakikos

A wonderful water route in the rich wetland of Amvrakikos!

We start from the ancient settlement of Kopraina (Alyki) which was the most important commercial port of Epeirus from the 6th till the beginning of the 20th century. Of special interest are the stone lighthouse (17th century) and the lighthouse keeper house-museum, as well as the museum of fishing. 

The route of Canoe kayak in Amvrakikos follows the Vovos river till its estuaries. Then, we follow into the Delta of Arachthos river. It is an area rich fauna - aquatic birds, caretta-carreta turtles and big herds of dolphins. Moving towards north through the wetland we stop at the entrance of the Agrilos lagoon, to look at the traditional houses of the local fishermen. It is notable that the fishermen here are still using ancient ways of fishing! Finally, we are back at our starting point, this time from the seaside...at the old port with the museum of fishing and the traditional taverna of Yiannis that offers only local fish, such as sardines, shrimps, eels and cuttlefish.

The whole distance is 4 nautical miles! The activity is suitable for all!
