Today we will enjoy a wonderful hike ending in the archaeological site of Delphi. This is a historic and inspiring hike dropping down from the slopes of Mt Parnassos to the village of Delphi. It is the ancient footpath that took Pans worshipers up from the ancient temples of Delphi to the Corycean Grotto to celebrate rites, and it is part of the E4 european trail. Our hike starts at Livadi plateau at an altitude of 1200m. Following the ancient path in a forested route we descend to Delphi sanctuary overlooking the olive trees valley and the Corinthian Gulf, whilst the mountains of the Peloponnese complete our picturesque scenery. Ending our hike we will savor a traditional picnic with local products.
We reach Delphi and visit the actual archaeological site and museum, a world heritage monument according to UNESCO, with a professional guide. Among others, we visit the Treasury of the Athenians, the Temple of Apollo and the museum which contains masterpieces such as the Bronze Charioteer and the image of the famous athlete Aghias.
Participate in an interactive workshop and savor the taste of Delphi sacred lands!
Delphi valley hosts more than 1,5 million olive trees with some of them being older than a 1000 year! Archaeologists found in these lands remains from wild olive trees from Ancient times, here it has always been an olive grove. The valley is recognized by UNESCO as a worldwide unique landscape and is today protected. Our day will start with a transfer in the heart of the olive fields towards Chrisso, a village of 300 people. The name of this village “Chrisso” means literally “Golden”, and since ever the locals are cultivating olives and producing olive oil, often described in Greece as liquid gold! You will participate in an olive oil tasting workshop, under the shade of a byzantine chapel.
Our expert guide will explain all about olive culture, transformation to edible olives or olive oil. You will taste different sorts of olives, virgin olive oil and olive tapenade from the awarded brand “Mer des Oliviers” from Delphi valley.
The session can be also combined with the hike on the Ancient Olive Grove
