Delphi

Nature at its grandest, the famous oracle and a Unesco World Heritage monument

The navel of the Earth

For ancient Greeks, Delphi marked the very center of the world, "the navel of the earth". It was a sanctuary, where human beings could communicate directly with the gods. Delphi, home of the all-seeing oracle of Pythia, religious center and symbol of unity of the ancient Greek world retains a magical ambiance. Built on the south-western slope of Mount Parnassus, it offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. It overlooks the vast the coastal plain to the south and the valley of Phocis. Delphi undoubtedly had a phenomenal influence in the ancient world, as evidenced by the unique monuments built here. The extensive archaeological site is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
