Thirasia Island ~ The Hidden Gem of Santorini (Private Tour)
Thirasia Island – The Hidden Gem of Santorini!
The small island of Thirasia is located just a few miles away from Santorini. Thirasia welcomes hardly any tourists at all and therefore looks like Santorini 50 years ago. Yes, Santorini is a gorgeous place, however, it’s not a secret that mass tourism has affected the island. Thirasia on the other hand has been preserved so far and remains until today an amazingly genuine place: goats, tomato fields, vineyards, old windmills, and just 400 inhabitants. This tour offers you a large variety of activities: Yachting, Snorkeling, Hiking, Wine Tasting, and Dinner.
After a convenient pickup from your hotel around 2 pm, you will be driven to the port of Vlychada. Our luxurious motorboat and guide will be waiting. On our way to Thirasia, we will have the opportunity to sail just next to the stunning coastline of Santorini. The Red Beach, White Beach, Black Beach, and the Lighthouse of Akrotiri. A snorkeling break is of course possible at one of those beaches if desired. We will then have a closer look at the island of Aspronisi (“White Island”). A tiny inhabited island with massive white cliffs – and the famous volcano of Santorini.
As we reach “Korfos”, the port of Thirasia, we start climbing the 300 stairs that will lead us to the capital of the island, Manolas. You will then relax for 30 min at one of the 2 only taverns of the village. You will enjoy some refreshing beverages while listening to your guide telling you more about the history of Thirasia. Next up! A stroll through the traditional village, during which you will immediately realize how quiet and authentic Thirasia is compared to Santorini. We will then start a 1-hour easy hike to discover the island, featuring breathtaking panoramic views, the abandoned settlement of Akrilia, very colorful churches, numerous ancient cave houses, small tomato fields, and vineyards.
It’s then time to start walking back to the port and hop on the boat that will bring you close to the Lighthouse of Akrotiri. One of the most iconic spots for sunsets in Santorini. After dropping anker there, you’ll enjoy a wine tasting on the boat featuring a variety of the prestigious Santorinian wines, followed by a dinner, with the sunset in the background. The boat will then continue to the port of Vlychada, where your driver will be waiting to take you back to your hotel.
