Overview

Discover Samaria Gorge, one of Crete’s most iconic natural landmarks and one of the most famous hiking routes in Greece. Located in the White Mountains, Samaria National Park is part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserves network and the European E4 long distance trail.

The route begins at the Omalos Plateau, at an altitude of 1,230 m, and descends through an impressive landscape of pine forests, riverbeds and towering limestone cliffs. Along the way, you will experience Crete’s unique flora and fauna and pass through the famous Iron Gates, where the gorge narrows to just 3 metres wide.

This is a long, non-technical endurance hike that requires proper pacing, preparation and support. With a certified trekking guide, you benefit from active pace management, safety oversight and local insight, making the full crossing smoother, safer and more rewarding.

The hike ends at Agia Roumeli, a small seaside village on the Libyan Sea. There, you can relax, swim and enjoy the coastal atmosphere before returning along Crete’s southern coastline.
