Hiking Mt. Dirfis, Central Evia

Dirfis is the most important and impressive mountain range of central Evia!

It is the highest mountain on Evia, Greece’s second-largest island. Its conical, volcano-shaped summit is visible from at least a hundred-miles range around the island. The stunningly-picturesque, alpine landscapes that characterize the mountain make the area more reminiscent of Switzerland than a typical Greek island.

The main peak of Dirfis, Delphi reaches 1,743 meters and can be visible from all over Central Greece. In ancient times it is said that in Delphi stood the temple of Dirfya Hera, in memory of her marriage to Zeus, which had taken place there.

Our meeting point is the picturesque village of Steni, from where we go to the starting point of the hike in just a few minutes drive with our vehicles. This is the main summit route from the chalkis refugee.  We hike in an extremely impressive path to the top of Delphi, the "Roof of Evia". Our route is uphill and we move in a rocky steep field. Due to the geographical location of the mountain, it usually has enough air and is the most fiercee mountain weatherwise in Greece. Should the weather allows it, arriving at the conical peak of Dirfis we have the opportunity to admire the amazing view to the endless blue of the Aegean! This relatively 'small' mountain is a very challenging climb yet a lifetime experience!
