Discover the Vouraikos Gorge, a truly beautiful natural landscape, ideal for hiking experiences. Hiking along the historic Cog Railway offers a genuinely memorable experience, through lush vegetation, flowing waters and impressive rock formations. It is a route that perfectly combines natural beauty with history and tradition.
Located in northern Peloponnese, between Mount Helmos and the eastern slopes of Mount Panachaiko, this impressive 20-kilometre gorge has been shaped over centuries by the Vouraikos River. As part of the Chelmos–Vouraikos National Park and a UNESCO Global Geopark, it stands out for its rich flora and fauna, while waterfalls, caves and unique geological formations create a landscape of remarkable natural beauty.
The trail follows this protected area and forms part of the European long-distance E4 trail. Throughout the hike, we walk alongside the tracks of the historic Cog Railway, a living monument dating back to 1896, connecting Diakopto with Kalavryta and considered one of the most scenic railway routes in the Balkans.
The experience begins at Mega Spilaio station and continues through the gorge to Triklia station, where we enjoy a tasty picnic in nature before heading back.
