Hiking in Kalypso gorge

Kalypso Gorge is located on the eastern slopes of Kissavos, above the village of “Kokkino Nero,” famous for its red water springs and as a crossroads of three waterways. This evergreen gorge features dense vegetation, natural pools, and flowing streams that create stunning waterfalls, forming a landscape of unmatched beauty.

To experience the magic of nature, we offer two options:

1. Kokkino Nero – Kalypso – Kokkino Nero
   A 2-hour uphill trek brings us to the “Dimosia,” a rural dirt road connecting Melivoia and Karitsa. We continue for another 40 minutes to reach the lakes. The return journey takes 30 minutes to the road and 1.5 hours back to Kokkino Nero. Total distance: 17 km – approximately 4.5 hours.

2. Half-Route Option
   With our transport, we reach Karitsa, halfway along the trail from Kokkino Nero. A short uphill hike of about 40 minutes (1.5 km) leads to a large waterfall and a beautiful lake. Then 30 minutes descent and 1.5 km back (total 3 km).

Whichever route you choose, a refreshing swim in the lake is worth it. You can carefully approach the 100m waterfall or finish with a dip in the natural pool outside Kokkino Nero, trying the therapeutic cold waters and natural clay spa!
