The 12 Gods had it right when they chose Pelion as their summer residence! Nestled between the Pagasitic Gulf and the Aegean Sea, Pelion stands out as one of Greece's most beautiful and lush destinations. From its stunning landscapes and traditional villages to its rich gastronomy and deep history, visitors will find plenty of reasons to explore this beautiful corner of the world. 🌿

History & Mythology

According to Greek mythology, the Centaurs lived on Mount Pelion and were tasked with protecting Apollo's son Asclepius – God healing powers – until Zeus could find him a suitable place on Earth. This is just one fabled story amongst many that have been passed down over time as Mount Pelion has remained deeply rooted within not just Greek culture but also European folklore!

Scenic Landscape

Pelion offers something unprecedented among Greek mountains, with a breathtaking combination of lush forests, rolling hills and sea views making it one of the most beautiful spots in all of Greece. And if you’re feeling adventurous, its landscape is ideal for hiking!

Highlights

One of the highlights of Pelion is its charming little villages. If you're visiting in the winter, you absolutely must check out Makrinitsa, Portaria, Miles, Vizitsa, Tsagarada, and Chania (where there's even a ski center!). These villages are nestled in a backdrop of lush greenery and traditional houses that will leave you breathless. But if you're coming in the summer, then Agios Ioannis, Horefto, Platanias, and Milina are the villages you should have on your list!

But enough about the villages, let's talk beaches! Mylopotamos, Agios Ioannis, Horefto, and Fakistra are just some of the top beaches in Pelion, and a dip in their crystal-clear waters is nothing short of heavenly. And if you can pull yourself away from the beach, you absolutely have to explore the area's stone-made churches. Plus, you can't miss the chance to indulge in some of the delicious local delicacies at the traditional taverns scattered throughout Pelion.

#FoodieTip: Try tsitsiravla (the young sprouts of wild pistachio trees pickled with vinegar and a touch of garlic), strapatsada and the famous spetzofai with the local sausage. And don’t forget to reach for a refreshing glass of homemade tsipouro – a strong spirit made from grapes that has been produced there for centuries!
