Rhodes, also known as the emerald island because of its shape, is an important crossroads between East and West. The largest island of the island complex is undoubtedly one of the most multi-dimensional islands of Greece with an uninterrupted historical continuity of 5,000 years, where numerous cultures have left their imprint. Among others, Byzantines, Venetians, Italians and Ottomans. Its Medieval City, a UNESCO heritage site, magnificent archaeological sites, castles and ancient cities create an idyllic setting and a direct link with the past.

Rhodes is also blessed with a beautiful natural environment, lush green forests and endless sandy beaches with emerald clear waters. On this island, everyone can find what they dream of! 🏖️.🌳.🌊

5 things to see in Rhodes

Kamiros & Monolith 🏛️

Ancient Kamiros, on the northwestern side of the island, was one of the three city-states of antiquity and was unearthed in 1929. Built amphitheatrically on a hillside, it enjoys an unobstructed view of Halki, Tilos and Nisyros. A roadtrip to Kamiro and Monolithos gives the traveller the opportunity to admire the impressive western coastline of the island & the beautiful sunset from the medieval castle of Monolithos. Also, to explore the lush green landscape in the interior of Rhodes, we recommend the route through the forests of Psinthos, Eleousa and Apollona.

Lachania & Mavros Kavos 🏖️

On the south side of the island we come across the beautiful village of Lachania, which together with Mesanagros, Arnitha and Asklepeio showcase the Dodecanese architectural tradition in the best way. Whitewashed small houses, tiny patios, colorful wooden doors and elaborate interiors. Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy a swim at the unknown impressive beach of Mavros Kavos. Endless sand dunes overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. And then, have a lunch at the old Italian Settlement of San Marco in Kattavia, with its uniquely delicious local cereals and pasta.

Salakos - Monastery of Prophet Ilia 🌄
A beautiful hiking route on the lush green mountain of Prophet Ilias, rising above the villages of Eleousa, Salakos, Apollo, Platanias and Dimilia. The beautiful trail starts from the village of Salakos, at 220 metres, and ends at the monastery of Prophet Ilias. The area is a wildlife sanctuary and is included in the NATURA 2000 network. Reaching the top we enjoy the endless view of the Aegean Sea!

Tilos, Halki, Symi & Kastelorizo 🌞
We explore the hidden gems starting from Rhodes: Tilos, with its rich flora and fauna and extensive network of mountain trails. Halki, with its beautiful picturesque village and the neighbouring, uninhabited island of Alimia. The atmospheric Symi, with its impressive laced coastlines and magnificent architecture. And finally, Megisti, the border town of Kastelorizo! With its unique history and unparalleled grace.

Extra Tip 💦

On Kastelorizo lies the impressive Blue Cave, one of the most impressive sea caves in Europe.
