Trekking Hellas celebrates 40 years of outdoor adventures by actively supporting equal access to the natural environment.

Greece’s first certified accessible forest trail is now a reality! Parnitha Accessible Trail was officially inaugurated on Monday, 12 October 2026, marking an important milestone for inclusion and equal access to nature.

As Trekking Hellas celebrates 40 years of experience in Greece’s outdoor tourism sector, we are particularly proud to have contributed to an initiative that reflects one of our core beliefs: nature is for everyone.

Through 4,366 online bookings on trekking.gr, a total of €4,366 was raised to support the development of the trail, with €1 from every online booking contributing to the project.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who chose Trekking Hellas for their next outdoor adventure and, through their booking, became part of this meaningful initiative. Together, thousands of small contributions came together to support a common purpose.

A trail that opens up nature to everyone

The project was initiated by Access to Nature, in collaboration with the Athens Mountaineering Club (EOS Athens), with the pivotal financial support of Kaizen Foundation and contributions from organisations, businesses and individuals.

Located within Mount Parnitha National Park, at an altitude of approximately 1,100 metres, the trail features a 396-metre circular route, connected to an additional 107-metre path leading to Bafi Mountain Refuge. The refuge has also been equipped with the necessary accessibility infrastructure, including ramps, a platform lift and an accessible toilet.

Designed in accordance with modern European accessibility standards, the trail enables wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility to experience the natural environment with greater independence, comfort and safety.

40 years of Trekking Hellas: Nature brings us together

For four decades, Trekking Hellas has been bringing people closer to nature through outdoor experiences across Greece. The creation of the country's first certified accessible forest trail represents an important step forward and a powerful reminder that outdoor recreation should be accessible to everyone.

As Stefanos Sidiropoulos, CEO of Trekking Hellas and manager of the Parnitha Mountain Refuges, explains:

“For the past 20 years, through our daily interaction with nature and its visitors, we have witnessed the need for infrastructure that allows everyone to enjoy the natural environment without barriers. Today, we feel deeply moved and relieved to see such an important project become a reality.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the Access to Nature team, who dedicated five years of persistence, hard work and passion to this initiative; to Kaizen Foundation for its pivotal financial support; and to everyone who contributed to making it happen.

The level of education and awareness in a society is reflected in the way it treats people who face barriers in their everyday lives. We hope this trail will be just the beginning.”

40 years of Trekking Hellas mean 40 years of experiences, exploration and connection with nature. Our vision for the future is one in which these experiences are open to everyone.

Parnitha Accessible Trail aspires to become a model for the development of similar routes throughout Greece, demonstrating that environmental protection and universal accessibility can go hand in hand.
