Overview

Get ready for a summer full of exploration and adventure in one of the most beautiful places in Greece — Karpenisi!

At the Teen Adventure Camp Karpenisi, teenagers aged 15–17 will enjoy 8 days packed with action, laughter, and new friendships! From river trekking and climbing to hikes through breathtaking landscapes, every day brings a new experience.

Accommodation is in tents and mountain huts, so you can truly feel the spirit of adventure… but always with safety first!

Reservation steps

To secure your child’s spot in the program, please first complete the online booking through the “Book Now” button and the payment, and then fill in the following information:

  • Online Participant's Personal Information Form
  • At least 1 month before the start of the program, you are kindly asked to send the Medical Form, signed by a pediatrician/pathologist.

  • In case of a history of severe allergic reactions/anaphylaxis, you must provide us with a signed Medical Form from an allergist at least 1 month before the start of the program.

*Important note: The Online Booking Form and the Participant's Personal Information Form must be filled out by the parent/legal guardian of the child.

Activities

The program’s activities are designed specifically for teenagers and, while not highly demanding, do require a good level of physical fitness.

During the camp, the schedule may be adjusted depending on weather conditions and the dynamics of the group.

  • Four-day trekking crossing
  • Hike from the camp to Krikello
  • Hike from Krikello to Ambliani
  • Hike to Psili Koryfi peak at Velouchi
  • Rock climbing
  • River trekking in the Granitsiotis Gorge

Accommodation

Karpenisi Camp

Campers stay in igloo-style tents, accommodating 2 to 3 children of the same gender and similar age group.

The tents are waterproof, with double covers and special sleeping mats.

Group leaders also stay in tents near the children to ensure safety and supervision around the clock.

Krikello – Ambliani

For the 2 overnight stays in Krikello and Ambliani, tents are set up on basketball and football courts provided for the program by the local municipalities.

Velouchi Mountain Refuge

Children will stay in the refuge dormitories, which include toilets and an outdoor shower.

Camping at Topoliana Agrafon

Children will stay in a local municipal campsite in 2–3 person tents from the camp. The campsite has toilets and showers available for their use during the stay.

*Note: Children’s belongings will be transported by the Trekking Hellas support vehicle. They will carry only a daypack with the essential items needed each day, according to the daily program and the instructions of their group leaders. The tents are provided by the Karpenissi camp.

Organizational structure - Staff

Camp Director: Stalikas Dimitris, general manager of Trekking Hellas Evritania.

Dimitris is a member of the Karpenisi Rescue Team and has had longstanding and dynamic involvement in outdoor activities (rafting, climbing, hiking, canyoning, skiing) and is a certified First Aider. He is well experienced in operating summer camps for kids and youth, is a passionate nature lover and aims to inspire our younger generations, to respect and value our natural resources. He is in charge of the camp program and has the overall responsibility for its smooth operation.

Team leader: Leads his group, guides, helps, inspires & protects. Aims to be close to the kids, get to know them, and support them in every way possible. All team leaders have been trained by the Karpenissi Summer Camp team in all aspects of camp life, completing a course that includes theoretical and practical guidelines.

Activity guides: Activity guides are trained and experienced guides, certified in outdoor activities such as climbing, rafting, and mountaineering, and are responsible for coordinating and supervising respective outdoor activities. 

During all activities and throughout the camp, there will always be at least 3–4 leaders certified in advanced First Aid (Wilderness First Aid).

Bus transfers

The price includes bus transportation from Athens to the camp and back, as well as all transfers required for the program activities.

The Kids' Department will inform parents of the exact departure and pick-up times and locations.

For any changes regarding the children’s transportation, please contact the Kids' Department via e-mail.

Visitation day

Due to the program’s short duration and constant transfers, there is no visiting day.

Activities / Schedule

Day 1

The day begins with departure from Athens heading toward the Karpenisi Camp at the top of Kaliakouda.

The journey gives us time to get to know each other and prepare for the days ahead.

Upon arrival, there will be a lunch, after which participants settle into their tents and receive an introduction to the program, along with a team meet-and-greet.

The day ends with dinner.

Day 2

The day starts with breakfast to give the team the energy they need!

Immediately after, we begin the four-day trekking crossing, with the first route from the camp to the picturesque village of Krikello.

The total duration of the hike is 7 hours, including rest stops, while the actual hiking time is 5 hours. Along the way, we will enjoy a light lunch at one of the stops.

Upon arrival in Krikello, the group settles into tents set up on the village’s basketball court.

The day ends with dinner at a local tavern in the village.

Day 3

The day begins with breakfast and team preparation for the second day of hiking.

The route from Krikello to Ambliani has a total duration of 6 hours, including rest stops, with 4 hours of actual hiking.

Along the way, there will be a stop for lunch and necessary rest.

Upon arrival in Ambliani, the group settles into tents set up on the village’s football field.

The day concludes with dinner at a local tavern in the village.

Day 4

The day begins with breakfast before we depart by bus to the Velouchi Mountain Hut.

During the journey, we will make a stop in Karpenissi for a light lunch.

Upon arrival at the Velouchi Mountain Hut, the group settles into the dormitory area.

Next, we set off on a hike to Psili Koryfi (2315 m) to enjoy a beautiful sunset from the summit. The total duration of the hike is 3 hours.

The day ends with dinner at the refuge.

Day 5

The day begins with breakfast before the group boards the bus to return to the camp.

Upon arrival, lunch will be served.

The afternoon is dedicated to rest and an orientation for the two-day climbing program ahead.

The day concludes with a delightful dinner!

Day 6

The day begins with breakfast before the group departs from the camp, heading to the village of Topoliana Agrafon.

Upon arrival, the group settles into the village campsite in tents provided by the camp.

At noon, we will have a picnic and enjoy our lunch.

In the afternoon, the group heads to Bouzonikos Gorge for a unique rock climbing experience!

Dinner at a local tavern will beautifully conclude the day.

Day 7

The day begins with breakfast and continues with river trekking in the Granitsiotis Gorge. Participants enjoy a unique River Trekking experience, exploring the area’s natural landscapes.

After a picnic lunch, the adventure continues! The group returns to Bouzonikos Gorge for the second rock climbing activity.

After an exciting day, the group heads back to the camp to relax.

The day concludes with dinner.

Day 8

The last day begins with breakfast, preparing the group for a short hike to Kaliakouda Peak (2101 m). The total hike duration is 3 hours.

After reaching the summit and enjoying lunch back at the camp, we will depart for Athens, filled with new experiences, sights, and unforgettable memories from the trip!

Equipment

Kindly pay close attention to the bring-along list below, as the special and exciting camp activities require the right gear for them to be enjoyable and not tiring for the kids. Backpacks and shoes that are not designed for mountain activities can cause injuries.

Luggage:

  • Mountaineering backpack at least 50 Lt as main luggage (not school bags)
  • Small mountaineering day-pack (15–20 Lt) for daily excursions

We recommend that children bring no more than one large piece of luggage due to the limited space in the tents.

Accommodation:

  • Sleeping bag (Winter, at least -3°)
  • Head flashlight with extra batteries
  • 1 single sheets, 1 pillowcase and small pillow (Instead of a pillow, we recommend a pillowcase, which children fill with clothes)

Clothing & footwear:

  • 1 pair of sneakers /sport shoes
  • 1 pair of hiking boots for added safety and comfort during the hikes
  • 1 pair of river shoes or Teva sandals that will be used in the river. (Crocs and flip-flops are not allowed)
  • Climbing shoes (in case someone already has)
  • Short-sleeved t-shirts, shorts, track pants, long hiking trouser and sweatshirts - many t-shirts and underwear due to frequent sweating
  • Underwear, cotton long socks, pyjamas
  • Fleece or warm sweater
  • Winter jacket
  • Anorak jacket (waterproof and windproof)

Excursions:

  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Water bottle (1 -1,5 Lt)
  • Sunscreen with a high protection factor for face/body
  • Lip balm
  • Swimsuit-beach towel 

Personal hygiene items:

  • 2 towels
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, shampoo, shower gel
  • Insect repellent & Anti-lice protection spray
  • Laundry bag

Optional items:

Items that are not allowed:

  • Valuables & large amounts of money (not more than 50 euros)

  • Sharp and dangerous objects (e.g., knives, pocketknives, lighters)

Meals

This program has a set menu, designed to support the activities the children participate in, and cannot be modified for special dietary needs.

Breakfast

  • Milk, orange juice
  • Bread, butter, honey, jam
  • Cornflakes, cookies, breadsticks
  • Where possible, yogurt will also be available

Mid-morning Snack

  • Breadsticks, cake, cereal bars, sweet bread

Lunch

  • Lunch will be served either at the camp, in local taverns, or as a packed lunch (sandwich, individual juice, and seasonal fruit), depending on the day’s program.

Afternoon Snack

  • Fruit, donuts, bread with hazelnut spread, cake

Dinner

  • Dinner will be served either at the camp or in local taverns, where children can choose from the available menu.

Notes:

  • Due to the nature of the program, vegan meals are not provided.
  • For any other dietary requirements (e.g., vegetarian, allergies, or special needs), please contact the Children’s Department before completing your booking.

Contact

Children are allowed to bring a mobile phone to the program. It should be used only to communicate with parents, following the instructions of the group leaders.

What are the age requirements for the program?

For this specific program, due to its nature and the activities involved, children from 15 years old up to 17 years old can participate.

What happens if a child requires medical care?

Throughout the program, a hospital is within close reach (10 to 50 minutes away), depending on the location of the daily activities.

Reservations for summer camps and kids’ multi-day activity programs are made exclusively through the Online Booking process, as follows:

• Stage 1: Choose the desired period and indicate the number of participants.
Note: Booking multiple participants is only allowed for siblings.
• Stage 2:

• In the “Reservation Form” field, fill in the parent/guardian details who is making the booking.
• In the “Campers Information” section, enter the requested details of the child.

• If you wish to pay by credit card, you may select installment payments (available only for Greek credit cards).
