The first climbing route on the rocks of Delphi has become a reality! The route takes on the distinct dihedral in the middle of the crag, offering a challenging ascent for experienced climbers. This marks the first complete route on the crag, with an earlier attempt nearby by L. Anesti - Chr. Daniil.
The 'Amphictyony' was unveiled in the winter of 2022 by G.Korodimos, F.Dimopoulos, and L.Rentifi. The bolts were provided by EOS Amfissa, and G. Milias assisted with his drill. Andreas Koufalis, climbing curator of EOS Amfissa, conceived the name.
The first repetition of the route was accomplished on 22/11/2023 by L. Anesti - N. Kasounis - G. Korodimos (Does the name ring a bell? He is 'our' George, Manager of Trekking Hellas Parnassos). A few days later, on 26/11/2023, the second repetition was completed by K. Muggolias - L. Karachalios and N. Daris - F. Dimopoulos.
'A day of marital pride! It is an effort of many years. When I met George, it was already on his mind. He would gaze at the rocks on every romantic walk we took to Delphi... I almost envied those rocks,' says Eleni Prablan, Office Manager & Outdoor Guide of Trekking Hellas Parnassos and wife of George Korodimos.
ℹ️ The route spans 195 meters, encompassing six pitches, with a difficulty rating of VII+. Climbing the Amphictyony requires not only setts but also a set of nuts and a set of friends (up to Camalot #2) to secure certain sections between the bolts.
The crag leads you almost into Delphi, allowing flexibility in reaching the base—either drive to the crag and walk back to your car or leave your car at Delphi and reverse the journey. Access by car is via a dirt road starting from the village of Chrissos and heading east. The descent on foot from Delphi follows the E4 path and then a dirt road just outside Chrissos.
The Amphictyony is a significant addition to Delphi's climbing rocks, destined to become a favored route for experienced climbers seeking a challenging ascent. If you're looking for an exhilarating climb, Amphictyony is the perfect choice!
