Valia Calda, (aka "Warm Valley" in Vlach), is renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty. However, there's an intriguing twist to its name – Valia Calda is one of the coldest places in Greece!

Surprisingly, this "Warm Valley" earned its name due to historical reasons. In the past, shepherds would bring their animals to graze in Valia Calda during the winter months. The valley's sheltered location and dense forests offered some protection from the harsh cold, resulting in temperatures up to 10 degrees Celsius higher than the surrounding ridges. Nevertheless, given its high-altitude location of up to 1,400 meters, nestled among towering mountains such as Egg, Mavrovouni, Myllia, and Pyrosteia with peaks exceeding 2,000 meters, it's only natural that Valia Calda experiences chilly temperatures. Ironically, one theory suggests that the name "Warm Valley" was bestowed with a touch of humor.
