Arachthos river stretches for 110 klm, through some of the most beautiful areas of Greece. It starts from northern Pindos and, passing between the mountains of Lakmos and Mitsikeli, flows into the Amvrakikos bay. Along the way, it crosses evergreen and impressive gorges “creating” unforgettable images and experiences. Our rafting descent follows a relatively easy route of about 10 km, which is suitable for families. We encounter flow with some light waves, repeated turns, and 2nd to 3rd degree crossings. About halfway through our route, we don't miss the opportunity for a dive in the natural lake formed by the 20-meter Klifki Waterfall. At the exit of the gorge, nearing the end of our route, we’ll marvel the largest single-arch stone bridge in the Balkans and one of the largest in Europe, the famous Plaka bridge, that has recently been restored.
Arachthos Gorge, located in Tzoumerka, is a breathtaking natural wonder, known for its towering cliffs and rushing blue river.
The Bridge of Plaka hike is a scenic circular trail starting at Trekking Hellas Tzoumerka base, leading to the historic stone built Bridge of Plaka, the largest single arch bridge in the Balkans.
The Bridge of Plaka is the largest single-arch bridge in the Balkans. There is also a stone building on the site, which used to serve as an old customs office when the borders of Greece extended to the Arachthos River. In the lower part of the building, there is a refreshment bar offering local snacks and herbs. The path then ascends to the traditional settlement of Plaka, which is built on xerolithic terraces, and it concludes in a circular route through the stone-built passage next to the river, returning to the base.
Our last day will be adrenaline filled! We are going to Rappel (descend a fixed rope) an impressive 30-meter-high rock, the last 7 meters of which have a negative gradient, making this a unique experience and the perfect closing of the 4rth and last day.
