Day Hike to Mytikas via a Secret Trail – A Unique Two-Day Adventure!
Camping in tents and overnight stay at the remote Christakis mountain shelter.
Get ready for an authentic mountaineering adventure on Mt. Olympus, far from the crowded trails! We depart from Thessaloniki heading toward the village of Kalyvia Elassonas. From there, we hop into 4x4 jeeps and follow an exciting 20-kilometer off-road route through the mountains until we reach Christakis Refuge, located at an altitude of 2,400 meters.
After setting up our tents and organizing the campsite, we hike to the nearby Christakis peak in the afternoon to enjoy a breathtaking sunset over the Olympus mountain range. In the evening, the Trekking Hellas team welcomes you with warm food and good company under the stars.
The next morning, we begin our ascent via the international E4 trail. We pass through Skolio Pass at 2,830m and reach the stunning Kakoskala at 2,866m. Here, we pause to take in the wild beauty of the Megala Kazania glacial basin and the surrounding peaks.
At this point, we gear up with the necessary climbing equipment and begin the final push to Mytikas – the highest peak in Greece at 2,918 meters. The view from the summit is simply indescribable!
After the descent, we return to the refuge, gather our gear, and head back down to Kalyvia and then to Thessaloniki.
Alternative Route:
For those seeking a less technical option, there's the opportunity to ascend Skolio (2,912m), Greece’s second-highest peak. This route involves a total of 3–4 hours of hiking with no need for climbing gear such as helmet, harness, or rope – an ideal choice for a more relaxed experience.
Accommodation & Meals:
We'll be camping near the Christakis emergency shelter. A BBQ will be organized on-site (we’ll handle the setup), and there's a designated area for it. Please note that the refuge does not have a full kitchen, so participants should bring their own food.
If you'd like to join the group BBQ, there is an additional cost of €20, which includes:
BBQ meal (souvlaki, sausage, pita bread, spreads, salad) and snacks (energy bar, croissant, juice).
