Hiking on Mount Grammos is a unique experience that combines the authentic beauty of the Pindus mountains with the area’s strong historical character. During this two-day journey, we explore one of Greece’s most remote and largely untouched mountain ranges.
On the first day, we will set off in the morning towards the village of Grammousta. Shortly before reaching the village, we will stop and hike to the "Hospital City" and the "Rebels' Cave". We will then continue towards the village of Grammos, where we will spend the night. Upon arrival, we will settle into the guesthouse and enjoy a free afternoon.
On the second day, after an early breakfast, we will travel along a dirt road to the starting point of the hike. From there, we will begin our ascent to the alpine Lake Gkistova, also known as the “Eye of Grammos”.
The lake lies at an altitude of over 2,350 metres and is surrounded by impressive alpine scenery, rocky landscapes and wildflowers. The route is demanding, but the views and the overall experience make it especially rewarding. From the lake, those who wish may continue to the summit of Grammos, at 2,520 metres, with views extending as far as the Prespa Lakes and the Albanian border.
Important: The activity is organized for a small group of 6 to 8 people to ensure a better experience and flexibility. Transportation is provided with two 4x4 vehicles. Participants using their own vehicle must have a 4x4 or a car with high ground clearance, as access to the trailhead on the second day involves a dirt road.
