River Trekking in Melivoia

A beautiful river-trek alongside the evergreen stream of "Tsouvala", which starts just below the main village of Melivoia on the southeastern slopes of Kissavos and ends at the beach of Velika.

We will follow a well-preserved path, the exact same that the villagers used in the past to reach their "chestnut orchards" - the areas where they used to grow the famous chestnut of Melivoia.

In Melivoia - if luck is on our side - we'll come across an elder who will open for us the local museum prior to commencing our hike. 

A fairytale hike passing thought a dense riverside forest. Bridges, recreational areas, traditional mills, stone fountains and springs are present at every point of the trail.

Of particular beauty is the small waterfall further up in the stream. During our hike we come across a rock, under which the "Skete" (hut) of a monk is hidden. We pass next to an imposing waterfall, learn about the local path legend of the cat and dog and marvel at a beautiful natural frame and take ...framed pictures! 

At the end of our trail, after about 2:30 hours, we cross the stream via Flying Fox and try our hand at the sport of archery. Then we enjoy a hearty picnic.
