As the days get longer and the sun starts to warm up, spring is the perfect time to explore the great outdoors and go on an adventure! Spring hiking can be a fun and exciting way to connect with nature and get some exercise. In this blog post, we will share 6 top tips to help you make the most of your spring hiking adventures and have fun while doing it!

1. Check the Weather Forecast

Spring weather can be unpredictable, so it is important to check the forecast before you head out on your hike. Be prepared for rain, wind, and even snow in some areas. Tip: Dress appropriately in layers so that you can adjust your clothing as the temperature changes throughout the day.

2. Choose Your Trail Carefully

Many trails may still be covered in snow or ice in the early spring, so it is important to choose your route carefully. Stick to lower elevation trails that are more likely to be clear of snow and ice. Tip: Consider the trail’s difficulty level and choose one that matches your skill level.

3. Bring the Right Gear

Proper gear is essential for a successful spring hike. Invest in a good pair of waterproof hiking boots to keep your feet dry and warm. Bring a waterproof jacket and extra layers to keep you warm in case the temperature drops. Tip: Don’t forget to pack sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a reusable bottle of water and snacks to keep you fueled and hydrated.

4. Be Prepared for Muddy Conditions

Spring can bring plenty of rain, which means muddy trails. Be prepared to get dirty and bring trekking poles to help you maintain your footing in slippery conditions. Tip: Bring an extra pair of socks and shoes to change into after your hike.

5. Be Mindful of Wildlife

Keep a safe distance from any animals you encounter and avoid feeding them. Tip: Be especially cautious of bears, as they may be emerging from hibernation and searching for food.

6. Leave No Trace

Pack out all of your trash and respect the natural environment around you. Tip: Stay on the trail to avoid trampling on fragile vegetation and avoid disturbing wildlife.
