Overview

Norway is a country renowned for its exceptional natural environment, which is characterized by countless fjords, lakes, and mountains. The long coastline in the west is influenced by the warm waters of the Gulf Stream, resulting in milder temperatures, even during the polar night when temperatures above freezing are common.

With the 4th highest per capita income in the world, Norway is a prosperous nation, largely due to its large oil and gas production. It also boasts a comprehensive social security system, universal healthcare, and well-organized services. It is no wonder that Norway consistently ranks in the top positions in various global indexes, including the Global Happiness Index, the Better Life Index, the Public Integrity Index, and the Democracy Index. Additionally, Norway has one of the lowest crime rates in the world.

Our trip aims to introduce participants to some of the most representative parts of northern Norway, from the North Cape to the Lofoten Islands. We will hike along peaks and beautiful beaches and observe the midnight sun.

Activities / Schedule

Flight to Oslo - Alta

The trip starts with a flight from Athens to Oslo, followed by a second flight from Oslo to Alta.

We recommend taking the suggested flights with Aegean departing at 12:00 and arriving at 14:50 in Oslo, and an evening flight with Norwegian departing at 19:45 and arriving at 22:49 in Alta, where our guide will be waiting to transfer you to a 3* hotel for an overnight stay in a double room with en-suite bathroom and breakfast included.

Northern Cape

We depart in the morning for the North Cape "Nord Kap Globus", the northernmost point of continental Europe. During the day, we will explore the area with various walks and visit the Cape's theme park, which includes an exhibition, a viewing room with the theme "The 4 seasons in the Northern Cape" and a souvenir shop with coffee.

In the open air area, the Globe sculpture is a symbol and landmark of the Northern Cape. In the afternoon, we transfer to the village of Skarsvag for an overnight stay in cottages for 2 or 3 people. We will have the opportunity to observe the midnight sun in the evening, which at this latitude stays high on the horizon even at midnight.

The total day trip covers 250 km of driving and takes approximately 4 hours.

Alta – Svensby

We will follow the same route to reach Alta and visit the open-air petroglyph museum where we will see some 6,000 figures between 2 and 6 thousand years old.

Later, we will continue towards Tromso and take a boat through two fjords before overnighting in the village of Svensby in two 5-room apartments with a bathroom and kitchen facilities for cooking or grilling on the available BBQ.

This journey covers a total distance of 470 km and takes approximately 7.5 hours.

Tromso – Sommaroy

We will continue our journey by taking the morning ferry to cross the fjord, and after a 56 km, 1 ½ hour drive, we will reach Tromso. Before reaching the town, we will make a stop to do a circular climb up Storsteinen hill, which can be reached by cable car. The total route is 5.5 km, with an elevation gain of 400 m and takes about 2 hours, offering a panoramic view of Tromso from the top.

Afterwards, we will make a stop in Tromso to explore the town, visit its museums, do some shopping, or enjoy a coffee.

In the late afternoon, we will depart for the village of Sommaroy, located 60 km away and about an hour's drive in the west. Sommaroy is a cluster of beautiful islands and hills with picturesque hiking trails. We will stay overnight in a 4* hotel, in two cottages with a bathroom and a kitchen. This is an ideal spot to relax while watching the midnight sun.

Polar Park, Bogen

In the morning, we will climb up the hill above the settlement, which offers a panoramic view of the islets and the surrounding area.

Continuing south, we will visit Polar Park, an arctic wildlife nature park spanning 1100 acres of forest where we can see animals such as bears, wolves, moose, polar foxes, lynx, and others roaming semi-wild in large fenced areas.

Then, we will head towards Lofoten and spend the night in the village of Bogen in two 6-room apartments with bathrooms and kitchens.

The total day trip covers 260 km and takes 4 hours of driving.

Floya Peak (Devil's Gate) - Henningsvaer

We will drive to the village of Svolvaer (220 km, 3 ½ hours), the capital of Lofoten. On our way, we will climb Mount Floya with an altitude of 590 meters, which dominates over Svolvaer and offers a spectacular panoramic view of the town and the islands.

We will also visit the "Devil's Gate" (Djevelporten), and those who are not afraid of heights can climb up. The route covers an altitude difference of 580 meters and takes 3 to 4 hours.

In the afternoon, we will spend the night in the picturesque village of Henningsvaer, where we will stay in three cottages with bathrooms and kitchens.

Viking Museum, march to Kvalvika Beach

Continuing our journey through Lofoten, we will visit the Lofotr Viking Museum, an open-air museum that showcases Viking life with a replica of a period house. Here, we will have the opportunity to enjoy a traditional Viking lunch of lamb soup, cooked over an open fire (not included in the price).

Afterward, we will visit Haukland Beach and Uttakleiv Beach before embarking on an afternoon hike to the secluded Kvalvika Beach. The trail climbs up to a gap and then descends to the beach, covering a distance of 2.2 km with an altitude gain of 165 m, and taking about 1 ½ hours each way.

Finally, we will spend the night in a chalet with rooms, bathroom, and kitchen.

Ascent to the top of Reinebringen, village Å

After preparing breakfast in the chalet kitchens, we will travel to the village of Reine (18 km, 25 minutes) and climb to the top of Reinebringen via a path with 1,800 steps, taking about 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on the group's physical condition. The summit provides spectacular views of the fjords, lakes, islands, and the villages of Reine and Hamnoy.

Next, we will visit the picturesque village of Å (10 km, 15 min) for lunch and an optional afternoon walk to the nearby Lake Agvatnet or the rocky shores south of the village.

In the afternoon, we will return to our accommodation to prepare our evening meal and relax while enjoying the view of the sea.

Ferry to Bodo, flight to Oslo

We will transfer to the port of Moskenes to catch the ferry to Bodo, and in the same afternoon, we will take a Norwegian flight to Oslo with a departure time of 19:30 and arrival time of 21:00.

We will spend the night in a 4* hotel located at the airport, in double rooms with a private bathroom and breakfast included.

Return flight

In the early morning hours, we will catch the Aegean flight to Athens with a departure time of 06:30 and an estimated arrival time of 11:15.

However, since the cost of insurance depends on the age of the participant, we have included the cost for the first category, which includes those up to 55 years old. Those aged 55 to 85 will pay an extra charge proportional to their age.

In the link below, you can see the coverage of the SILVER program and contact our travel advisor to resolve any questions you may have regarding the coverage.
