Overview

This 2-day trip to Dragon Lake of Tymfi is a complete mountain experience for those who love hiking and want to explore one of the most impressive landscapes of Epirus. Starting from Mikro Papigo, one of the most picturesque villages of Zagori, the program combines an alpine ascent, an overnight stay in a mountain hut and a hike to the stunning Dragon Lake of Tymfi.

For this trip, transfer from and to Thessaloniki is available, ensuring a smooth and well-organized experience. The meeting points for departure from Thessaloniki are the following:

07:00 a.m. Voulgari & K. Karamanli (in front of Everest)
07:15 a.m. Venizelos Statue & Egnatia
07:30 a.m. In front of One Salonica (open parking area)

Activities / Schedule

Departure from Thessaloniki & hike to Astraka Mountain Hut

On the first day, we set off early in the morning, departing from Thessaloniki at 07:30 and arriving at Mikro Papigo around 12:30. From there, we begin our hike towards Astraka Mountain Hut. The route is a rewarding mountain ascent through impressive natural scenery, with open views of the striking peaks of Tymfi and the rugged character of the landscape.

At around 16:00, we reach the hut, where an authentic mountain experience awaits. We settle in, relax, and enjoy the calm and unique atmosphere of the surroundings before spending the night and recharging for the next day.

Hike to Dragon Lake & return to Thessaloniki

On the second day, we set off from the hut at 07:30, after breakfast and getting ready for the day’s hike. Around 09:30, we reach Dragon Lake, where we take a break to rest and take in the impressive alpine scenery.

We then return to the hut and begin our descent towards Mikro Papigo, arriving at approximately 15:30. From there, we head back to Thessaloniki, with arrival expected around 21:00.

Mountain hut information

For your stay at the mountain hut, it’s important to be well prepared for alpine conditions. You will need either a pair of sheets or a sleeping bag (blankets are provided), a pillowcase, towel, headlamp, and warm clothing, as the hut is not heated.

Rooms are available from 15:00 and should be vacated by 08:30 to allow for cleaning. The restaurant operates on a self-service basis from 07:00 to 20:30, while electricity is available until 22:00.

Smoking, cooking stoves, and candles are not allowed inside the hut. Guests are responsible for collecting their personal waste and taking it with them upon departure.

Please ensure your arrival at the hut is completed no later than 21:00.
