Overview

Our hike starts at the traditional village of Megalo Papigo and finishes at the village of Vikos.
We hike in the heart of the beautiful National Park of Vikos-Aoos. We hike the north-west face of Vikos Gorge, towards the Voidomatis springs. En route, we will have exceptional panoramic views of the upper Voidomatis Gorge, the renowned “Astraka Towers” and the picturesque Papigo villages.
As soon as we reach the springs, we will have the chance to visit an ancient Monastery. We might even have a swim in the crystal clear bubbling waters of Voidomatis River. After our refreshing break, we will continue uphill for approximately 45 minutes, towards the village of Vikos, where our hike will come to an end. From Vikos we will have the opportunity to take in the stunning views over the deepest canyon in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records!

Reviews

We did both rafting along the Voidomatis river and a hike into the Vikos Gorge, on different days.
The rafting was very pretty, and not really too difficult, there is a little bit of white water, but at the time we were on the river it was easily managed with the biggest hazard probably being some low-hanging branches.
On our walk in the Vikos Gorge our guide, Apostolos, had a very decent knowledge of the local flora and geology and kept us informed throughout our 5 hours, though we didn't see any wildlife, which was a small shame. The Vikos Gorge is really spectacular and definitely worth a closer look.
