Imbued with centuries of history, a rich tradition, superb local cuisine, and nature of unparalleled beauty, mountainous Arcadia never ceases to captivate us. Charming stone-built villages, historic monasteries perched on steep cliffs, rushing rivers, and imposing gorges render it a loved destination. And for thrill-seekers, it serves as an excellent playground with opportunities for rafting, river trekking, and various hikes!

The Gorge of Lousios 🌳

Also known as the "Holy Mountain" of the Peloponnese, it owes this title to the historic monasteries of St.John Prodromos and Filosofos, clinging to the rocks above the river. The gorge features churches, ascetics, and hermitages, offering a unique hiking experience. The paths traverse reclaimed routes of unparalleled beauty, leading to Ancient Gortyna. The gorge holds the status of an archaeological and ecologically protected site.

The Church of Agia Theodora ⛪

Located outside the village of Vasta in Megalopolis, this chapel attracts numerous visitors from across Greece and beyond. People rush to admire the 17 plane trees rising from the tiny church's roof. The roots of these trees weave through the walls and extend to the ground, while trunks and branches climb out of the roof. Faithful pilgrims attribute this natural spectacle to a miracle!

The Legendary Menalon Trail 🚶‍♀️

As the first Certified Trail in Greece by ERA, the Menalon Trail winds through the Loussis River gorge, the western slopes of Mount Menalon, the Milaon River valley, and the Gortynian Mountains. Stretching for 80 km, it traverses the villages of Stemnitsa, Dimitsana, Zigovisti, Elati, Vytina, Nymphasia, Magouliana, Valtesiniko, and Lagadia.

Lousios & Alfeios, Mythical Rivers 💦

Though small, spanning only 23 km, Lousios is a true gem. Its rushing waters cut through the homonymous gorge, surrounded by dense vegetation and wild rocks. According to mythology, this is where Zeus was drawn to the nymphs upon his birth, hence the name. The river eventually joins the mythical Alpheus, one of antiquity's deified rivers. The Arcadian rivers offer thrilling rafting trips throughout the year!
