Overview

A unique 8-day hiking experience in a majestic peninsula in Greece, halfway between Athens and Thessaloniki, that combines the beauty of wild mountains, endless beaches, picturesque villages, great mythology, and heavenly delicious food & sweets.

Following an old stone path, we make our way to the village of Kala Nera. Here we can swim and have lunch at a small fish restaurant before hiking back to Milies. We cross Mount Pelion from South West to North East, walking on a forest road through chestnut trees and reach the village of Tsagarada. At the square we will admire the oldest plane tree in Europe, more than 1750 years old, and then have our picnic beside a lovely white painted chapel on the hillside. We shall also visit the isolated beach of Fakistra with crystal clear blue water. Following the coastal path, having magnificent views of the Aegean Sea we’ll enjoy this isolated beach for our pick nick lunch and for swimming.

Starting from Damouchari, we follow the path along the shore to Agios Ioannis and the magnificent sandy beach Papa Nero. We stay at Chania, the highest among the villages of the area (1.190 m) and from our guesthouse we follow the road up to the ski centre at 1580m and from there we will enjoy fantastic views of both the Aegean Sea and the Pagasitikos Gulf. We will follow the same path that was used according to the Greek Mythology by the Centaurs. These creatures were the followers of the wine god Dionysus and are well known for drunkenness and lustfulness. The path leads us to the village of Portaria and continues to Makrinitsa, another picturesque village of the area with many old mansions, also known as the “Balcony of Mt. Pelion”, offering amazing views of the Pagasitic Gulf and the city of Volos.
